Collegiate Sports Sustainability Summit
(Monday-Wednesday, June 5-7, 2017) The University of Florida will be hosting the Collegiate Sports Sustainability Summit. The University provides an ideal environment for participants to share ideas, experiences and best practices from their campuses. The Summit is designed to bring sustainability-minded campus leaders together to discuss, share, and promote ways to best advocate for this important initiative and offers engaging speakers, collaborative round table discussions, and breakout sessions that allow participants to dive deeper into topics regarding sustainability. Participants will be able to share ideas, experiences and best practices from their campus' operations pertaining to sports and sustainability. The University of Florida will showcase how they have integrated sustainable initiatives in athletics and the progress made over the past few years. Energy Impacts 2017
(Wednesday-Thursday, July 26-27, 2017) Energy Impacts 2017 is the first North American conference focused on social science research related to the impacts of energy development - with a goal of synthesis, comparison and innovation among established and emerging energy impacts scholars from North America and abroad. The pace, scale and intensity of new energy development around the world demands credible and informed research about potential impacts to human communities that host energy developments. While a fast-growing body of research addresses social, economic, and behavioral impacts from large-scale energy development for host communities and landscapes, their discoveries are often isolated by disciplinary and geographic boundaries. We invite participation from sociologists, geographers, political scientists, public health specialists, economists, anthropologists, practitioners and other interested parties whose work addresses impacts of new energy development for host communities and landscapes. Twelfth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences
(Wednesday-Friday, July 26-28, 2017) Announcing the Call for Papers for the Twelfth International Conference on Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, to be held at the International Conference Center in Hiroshima, Japan. Founded in 2006, the conference examines the nature of disciplinary practices in the study of society and the interdisciplinary practices that arise in the context of "real world" applications of social research and theory. The conference also investigates what constitutes "science" in a social context and the connections between the social and other sciences. The focus of papers ranges from the finely grained and empirical (research practices and results exemplifying one or more disciplines) to wide-ranging multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspectives on knowledge and method. We invite proposals for paper presentations, workshops/interactive sessions, posters/exhibits, colloquia, virtual posters, or virtual lightning talks. 7th Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy
(Thursday-Wednesday, August 3-16, 2017) The Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy (SISE) is a two-week "boot camp" for future decision makers eager to join the sustainability and energy revolution happening around the globe. Held annually on the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) since 2011, the program boasts 300 alumni. During weekdays, participants (SISE’ers) participate in high-level talks, visit energy and sustainability sites, and network with Chicago-area experts and program alumni. The World Environmental Education Congress (WEEC) is an international congress addressing education for environment and sustainability. The congress is an international meeting point for everyone working with education for environment and sustainable future or who has an interest in the field. Drylab 2023: Experiencing a future of water scarcity
Enacting a very near future, eight individuals are living in a remote location in the Mojave Desert with only 4 gallons of water per person a day (i.e., Drylab 2023). These individuals self-organize their use of limited resources and communicate daily in their experience about living with those resource constraints. You can follow them at http://drylab2023.net. This is an art/sustainability project co-organized by Marco Janssen, School of Sustainability and Adriene Jenik, School of Art.

ASU sending 20 students abroad on prestigious Gilman scholarships
Derek Miltimore will work with drones to excavate an archeological site in Macedonia this summer, while Cassie Roose will learn Arabic in Morocco as a way to help refugees. They are 2 of the 20 Sun Devils who won a prestigious Gilman scholarship to study abroad this summer — the most ever for Arizona State University. The nationwide Gilman scholarship funds international travel for young people who might not otherwise consider studying abroad — such as first-generation college students, those with disabilities and underrepresented ethnic and demographic groups.
